Softphone Software Review vol. 4 — PhonerLite

This story is about PhonerLite, a popular and free softphone. For many people acquaintance with SIP began with this app — the first release appeared in 2005, it's older than MicroSIP, Acrobits, and even Zoiper with 3CX. The age is pretty venerable and we also note that the old school design corresponds it quite. The opponent — we mean Softphone.Pro — is younger and looks more modern in terms of interface.

However, it makes sence to square off not years but characteristics. (Sure, no one wrote reviews like Cisco Jabber vs Bria or MicroSIP vs 3CX in terms of age... and we shall not.) Since we compare alternatives we should talk about their value for user. Let's see them in action.

Comparison criteria Softphone.Pro 4.9 PhonerLite 3.6
🛈    Ergonomics / 2 clicks interface very good good
🛈    Headset compatibility very good n/a
🛈    Designed for any size teams very good no
🛈    Provisioning + security very good no
🛈    Integration with CRM and web services built-in n/a
🛈    MS Excel and Google Sheets integration very good no
🛈    Click-to-call aka click-to-dial support very good unintuitive
🛈    BLF indication very good no
🛈    20+ reports yes no
🛈    SIP accounts supported 32 n/a
🛈    Notifications very good very good
🛈    Installer size / footprint 19 / 33 Mb 7 / 10
🛈    Price cheap free

The final decision is always up to you, we just summarize. PhonerLite is free, simple, and a bit old-fasioned in terms of interface. Softphone.Pro is cheap and offers many reporting options and much integration opportunities. In contrast to PhonerLite, it is good not only for individual use but also for teams. Looks like a good multitool for call centers and helpdesks.
