Softphone.Pro 5.9: Long Names, Localization, Sustainability, and New Headsets

Meet and greet the newest release! 5.9 timed its arrival for Christmas and rests on four elephants: Integration, Localization, Sustainability, and Long Names.

LONG NAMES

Contact’s visible part in the eponymous window is up to 40 symbols (the larger scale, the less) — the same to the Call Log and Incoming Call notification windows. Is it enough or too little? We’d say rather little if there are namesakes among your contact list especially if you used to write company names too.

Sure, there might be happy exceptions: e.g. Hollywood Robert John Downey Sr. and Hollywood Robert John Downey Jr. are lucky and manage to fit entirely, their names are displayed to the last letter… but Modern Software Solution Alexander Schweinsteiger and Modern Software Solution Alexander Schwarzkopf end on a cliffhanger.

Some might say: and to hell with it, not worth a plug nickel! — who caught the push-button phones era, those are quite happy with 16 symbols, old school forever. But wait: what if your company's rule is to save both corporation names and persons names in the contact? What if the softphone to show what is recorded in the XML phone book kept on your company’s server?

It also happens that a PBX together with a caller number is to send a caller name which might include city, office, and the person’s full name — that’s a very common situation for businesses with a developed branch network. And so it follows that incoming notification pops on, the name is right before eyes, and still is not clear who’s calling...

Why succumb to the sin of despondency (if there are other sins)? Now when you hover over the contact, the softphone shows the whole name as it is, even there lurks Hubert Blaine Wolfeschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorff :)

Recently we found a couple of tpyos in some localizations. Surely we’ve fixed it — now ES, RO, and UZ interfaces are even better than before!

By the way, we revealed them ourselves. Pehpars, tehse tpyos wree not vrey curical :)

MORE STABILITY

We’ve also improved the work of the app in some specific and rare situations and corrected minor hiccups — perhaps, you did not even notice, but the softphone now works even more reliably anyway.
